Dreams Do Come True!!

Benny Lewis is my idol. On the internet he’s known as the Irish Polyglot. He speaks 11 languages with varying levels of fluency, which he learned while traveling the world. On his blog, Benny says his mission is to give people permission to make mistakes.

“The more mistakes you make, the faster you become a confident language learner.”

Benny’s story reminds me of my own. I think many of us have at least the beginning of his story in common.

Benny studied Gaelic for 11 years, German for 5 years, but by the end, couldn’t have conversations in either. After college he moved to Spain and tried to pick up Spanish, and failed again. Things finally changed when Benny met an actual polyglot:

“He explained that to speak a language, you’ve just got to start speaking it. There’s no magic, he said. You only need a willingness to make mistakes.”

After talking to the polyglot, Benny made the necessary changes in his life to finally conquer foreign languages. His book Fluent in 3 Months, describes how anyone can overcome the challenges they face in learning a foreign language.

If you are even remotely interested in learning a foreign language, I highly recommend Benny’s TEDx Talk (See Below). Benny has a fun style of communicating and explains language learning so that anyone can understand.

Now ladies and gentlemen, why are we talking about Benny Lewis today? Because one of my dreams came true this week. I was published on the Fluent in Three Months Blog.

11-08£¨…„”∞1I wrote a guest article about my dear friend, Jesse Yang, a Chinese polyglot who has no arms. Jesse is an inspiration to everyone he meets to stop letting excuses get in the way. He’s a champion swimmer, a public speaker, a talented calligrapher, and just an all around awesome dude.

The article talks about Jesse’s accident that led to both arms being amputated, and how that has helped him to live life with no excuses. Check the article out here: Stop Allowing Excuses to Run Your Life, and please leave comments and share with your friends! I hope you enjoy it.

Here’s a really awesome self intro of Jesse, PLUS see him jump out of a swimming pool like a dolphin!
